If you have an iPhone, you can say, “Hey, Siri,” followed by “Make a new note.” Talk and the words will be typed out as you speak them. If you do this, say, while in Notes, you can lay the phone down and have a discussion with someone, and the conversation will be transcribed. And the words are typed out in real time. ![]() OCR and AI, like human beings, are far from perfect.Īll smartphones and tablets let you tap a little microphone, usually to the right of the keyboard, that enables you to talk instead of type. It’s essential to review these conversions before you share them. Similarly, artificial intelligence (AI) can convert your sloppy handwriting into text or transcribe audio into typed words. For example, if you take a photo of a business card someone hands you, that information can be imported into your Contacts. Why go through all this trouble? Once it’s in text, you can then edit the sentences, search by keyword, and share it in an email, post it to social media or save it as a document. Technology that can lift words and numbers from a photo and convert it into digital text is called OCR, which stands for optical character recognition. ![]() ![]() Many of the solutions are free or close to it. Have an audio interview with a family member but don’t want to manually transcribe it? ![]() Rearoute allows me to add 16 tracks in addition to the 12 tracks I have with the live/wet signal mixer, and that should be the perfect amount of tracks I need. I have the e-drums sending MIDI too, so the dream is to get an entire bands worth of dry tracks that could be re-produced with entirely different sounds. I also want to capture the dry signals from the vocals and guitars before they run through amps & FX, I have a UMC404 (which I might replace as it's not that great) and a Line 6 Helix to do this with, but of course ASIO only allows the use of one device, and using multiple devices with ASIO4ALL causes problems as I have recently learned with the absence of a word clock. I want to send all audio eventually into Reaper. Why? So my main interface is also a live mixer and it does a great job, it's monitoring 3 guitar tracks, 3 vocal tracks, e-drums and a USB rtn for Ableton. I wish to use VM to combine audio streams coming in from multiple interfaces. So I saw this topic here and wanted to ask my own question similar to this OP: ![]() The dealbreaker for me, however, was its incredibly sluggish and unresponsive synchronization. ![]() It just doesn’t make much sense if all I can do is to throw various notes into one “Notebook” if I were reading several multi-chaptered books, and each chapter has various subtopics. For a starter, its note organization was amateurish compared with OneNote’s multi-layered approach. It has always seemed to me that Evernote pays more attention to marketing and appealing to “business” users rather than spending serious efforts in the product itself. However I didn’t have much fondness for it from the very beginning. So when I switched to Mac as many programmers would, OneNote was just out of the picture.Įvernote was all the rage at that time. However at that time Microsoft was known to be stubborn to not offer their products outside of Windows. It was an integral part of my life when I first learnt English and prepared for university application. I gladly wrote a whole lot of notes on books/movies/interesting stuffs I would find on the web. It was great - it had multiple layers of organization comprising of Notebook, Section, Page, and even Subpage. I’ve seen many people using Emacs and Org mode for their scientific research, creative writing, personal journal, or whatever purpose out there. I’m amazed by how my daily efficiency massively improved upon using Org mode, how other note-taking apps are just kind of reinventing the wheel, and how I didn’t get to know it earlier. However, the process was unexpectedly fraught with setbacks and angst, until I finally met Emacs Org mode, which is everything a programmer(or possibly any serious note-taker) could ever dream of. Thus it’s only natural that I immediately set out to find the perfect note-taking app for me after getting into the world of programming. And back when I was into reading newspapers, I would spend hours each night, carefully cutting and pasting newspaper articles into notebooks, accompanied with my comments I easily accumulated hundred of pages of paperclips in this fashion. I’ve lost count of the number of diary books I wrote as a kid. (Note: This post is more a kind of rambling personal recount/opinion, so if you’re already an Org mode user and are just interested in some Org mode customizations you might want to see this.) |
